One of the strengths of the social platforms is their power to create ongoing connections directly (and intimately) with people. An excellent example happening online now is the flight of Solar Impulse, the first round-the-world flight in an airplane powered only by sunlight. Sunlight!
To give you an idea of their social coverage, here’s a recent flight video:
The Solar Impulse team is covering the flight on line through a variety of social platforms. Taken together, these channels provide a powerful connection between this historic flight and the millions of people around the world who are following project. Although the Solar Impulse has a big-budget media team and big-name, tech-savvy sponsors, the amazing thing is that the same tools are available to every organization, big or small, almost for free.
To get an idea of the quality (and power) of this social coverage (and amazing flight), have a quick look through the gallery below, which shows the project's website and Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and YouTube pages. Clicking on each picture will take you to the relevant site.
Feel inspired? We certainly do! That’s the power of connecting people with your mission in a real, down-to-earth way through the old-fashioned tools of stories, words, music, and images, rendered through the channels of online video, social, and pictures.
In part 2 of this post, we will look at some observations and tips for your business from Solar Impulse’s excellent online coverage.
